Dancing


Register for dance classes at MMC Member Services. Call 302-734-1200 x167, Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. Line dance classes are free for MMC Members


 



High Impact Line Dancing

High Impact line dance meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Palmer Room. It is free to MMC members. Get your blood flowing in this high impact class designed for intermediate and advanced level students. 

Beginner Line Dancing

Beginner line dance meets Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Palmer Room. It is free to MMC members. Learn the basic steps of this popular form of dance and gets lots of exercise. No partner needed! The first portion of the class is devoted to teaching the basic steps and simple dances for first time line dancers. Please alert the instrucor at the beginning of the class that you are new. The last portion of the class is beginner level dances.

Intermediate Line Dancing

Intermediate line dance meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Palmer Room. It is free to MMC members. Hone your dancing skills in this intermediate level class. Prior line dance experience is recommended. 

Advanced Line Dancing

Advanced line dance meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Palmer Room. It is free to MMC members. Learn new steps and share your passion for line dancing through practice and performance opportunities with the Steppin' Seniors advanced line dance class. Prior line dance experience required.

Couples Line Dancing

Couple's line dance meets Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Palmer Room. It is free to MMC members. Grab a partner and become a line dancing duo. This class is intermediate level but beginners are welcome to join. Coming with a partner is ideal but is not necessary to join the class.

Soul Line Dancing

Soul line dance meets Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Palmer Room. It is free to MMC members. Dance with the Soulsations to the soul and R&B music you love. This is a low-moderate impact line dance experience.

Tap Dancing

Intermediate tap students are invited to dance with Linda Gaither this winter. You will learn to make sounds that only “tappers with technique” can make while listening to the good old soft shoe sounds of yesteryear to the foot stompin’ rhythms of today. Attire is comfortable clothes and tap shoes.
            The 8-week winter session runs Wednesdays, February 6 to March 27 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. in Activity Room #8. Each session is $37 members or $67 non-members. If you prefer, you can pay by the class at $6 a class members or $12 a class non-members. Register at Member Services as space is limited. Beginner level students – please see the new “introduction to dance” class offered.

Jazz Dance

Intermediate jazz students are invited to dance with Linda Gaither this winter. Jazz is a classic modern dance style that is energetic and fun. Attire is comfortable clothes and jazz or ballet slippers.
            The 8-week winter session runs Wednesdays, February 6 to March 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Activity Room #8. Each session is $37 members or $67 non-members. If you prefer, you can pay by the class at $6 a class members or $12 a class non-members. Register at Member Services as space is limited.  Beginner level students – please see the new “introduction to dance” class offered.

Ballroom Dancing

Learn dances such as the Waltz, American Tango, Rumba and more at the MMCs ballroom dancing lessons! This is an enjoyable way to burn calories. After all, dancing isn’t just about the steps and music but the perfect combination of physical activity, social interaction, and mental stimulation.
            This class is led by Ted and Yoshi Briggs. All skill levels are welcome. Classes are $5 for members and $10 for non-members (pay at the door). The next classes are February 4 and 19, March 4 and 19 in the Palmer Room. All classes begin at 7 p.m. 

Introduction to Dance

Instructor Linda Gaither teaches this introduction to dance class featuring jazz, ballet and tap. Students spend 30-minutes per dance style (90 minute class). Suitable for new or beginner level students. Each session is 8 weeks long and is $52 members and $72 non-members. If you prefer, you can pay by the class at $9 a class members or $15 a class non-members. The 8-week winter session runs Wednesdays, February 6 to March 27 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in Activity Room #10 (sunroom). Students can try out the class before purchasing shoes by wearing non-rubber sole shoes. 

Broadway Style Dancing

Intermediate level students (some dance experience) can participate in this new and fun dance class with Linda Gaither. At the beginning of the session the class will vote on a Broadway musical they want to learn. Techniques will include pantomime and lip sync techniques as the performers express meaning through gestures accompanied by music. Class time consists of learning techniques followed by their Broadway routine. The first class routine is from “Mama Mia” so bring a scarf so you can be part of the look.
