SCSEP- Paid job training for people 55 and up

At the Modern Maturity Center, we help older adults find work, develop new skills and talents, and build their financial security by sponsoring the Kent County Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP is an on-the-job training and employment program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. The program is designed to help those unemployed, age 55 and older update their jobs skills, build work experience and confidence, and continue to have economic security and well-being. Who is eligible for SCSEP?

You are Eligible if:
  • Your family income is no more than 125% of the Federal Poverty Level (for example, the 2023 income limit is $18,225 for an individual: $24,650 for two.)
    • If you are on Social Security Disability, your SSDI income does not count. If you are married and collecting SSDI, you may count as a family of one.
    • If you are collecting Service-Connected Disability, your SCD income does not count.
  • You are 55 years of age or older
  • Live In Kent County
  • You are totally unemployed
  • You are legally able to work in the U.S.
Priority is given to:
  • Veterans
  • Disabled
  • Seniors in most need: Severe Disability, Frail, Age 75 or older, Old Enough for but not receiving SS Title II, Severely Limited Employment Prospects and living in an area of persistent unemployment, Limited English Proficiency, Low Literacy Skills, Disability, rural(Milford), Veterans, Low Employment Prospects, Failed to find employment after using WIOA Title I, and Homeless or At risk of Homelessness.

What type of training is available in Kent County?

Currently participants are eligible for 25 hours of training per a week at $11.75 per hour, and train at a multitude of host sites including: Academy of Dover, Capital School District, Code Purple, Delaware State University, Department of Labor, Eden Veterans Refuge, First State Community Action Agency, Goodwill Retail Store, Habitat for Humanity, Harvest Years Senior Center, Jesse Cooper Building, Mamie A. Warren Senior Center, Modern Maturity Center, Office of Food Protection and Healthy Environment, Providence Creek Academy, Smyrna State Center, The Shepherds Place, and the Town of Wyoming Police Department.
 
Each host site offers participants different training experiences and opportunities to learn new skills. Training titles include: clerical, cashier, custodial, receptionist, data entry, gift shop attendee, production assistant, case worker, clerk, greeter, maintenance, kitchen aide, food service, general support, and security,
