We Are now the Aurich Pool & Fitness Center at MMC!

The Aurich Pool & Fitness Center at MMC provides cardio and strength training machines, in addition to free weights. Personal trainers are available to help you develop a personalized fitness routine.

Pool

The therapeutic, heated pool (approx. 89 degrees) is ideal for those who have joint issues. Aquatic Aerobics classes are available for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. All classes are instructed at the same level, but clients are encouraged to exercise at their own level. An aqua arthritis class is also available for a lower impact program. Recreational volleyball is played on Friday afternoons from 3-4pm. Lap swimming is also an option for members. Just reserve a lane with the lifeguard on-duty.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese experience to balance the mind and body by allowing Chi or Energy to flow through the body smoothly using deep relaxed breathing, gentle stretches and movements, and a clear focused mind.

The class is led by Ran Griem, RN, Shiatsu Practitioner.Class size is limited to 15 participants. Cost for eight classes is $35 for members and $45 for non-members.

Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan Form

With its slow and flowing Tai Chi movements to its fast and powerful Wushu moves, this form has become very popular. A prerequisite is that students must have already participated in one of Ran's Tai Chi classes.

The 8-week class is led by Ran Griem, RN, Shiatsu Practitioner.Class size is limited to 15 participants. Cost for eight classes is $35 for members and $45 for non-members.

Yoga with Mara Ormond

Instructor Mara Ormond teaches a mixed style Hatha Yoga tradition called Svadhyaya Yoga; focusing on flexibility and strength in the spine, abdominals, neck, hips, and legs.

Mara Ormond is a certified and insured yoga instructor. She began practicing yoga while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West Africa. Her intention for her students is that they are safe from injury, enjoy the experience and that they learn at least one thing that is practical to them in a useful way.

  • Class meets Thursdays 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. in the Palmer Room.
  • Cost is $35 for MMC members and $45 for non-members.

Betsy’s Body-Friendly-Yoga

Betsy's Body Friendly Yoga is taught by Betsy Gustafson who is well-known in the community from teaching exercise classes for over 25 years. Betsy is a certified group exercise instructor, yoga and Pilates instructor and certified personal trainer. She is also a senior exercise specialist.

Participants can be brand new to yoga or have previous experience. Betsy encourages your body to improve from its current capability to a better level. The class includes standing poses, seated poses, and may include the use of chairs to enhance capability. Classes end with a relaxation segment for participants to leave feeling renewed and refreshed. Yoga is known for enhancing the strength and flexibility of the muscles in a gentle and effective way. It can improve posture and balance, and reduce stress. Non-members welcome.

  • Classes meet Mondays, 2:30-3:30 PM, in the Palmer Room.

Tai Chi for Fitness

Designed for beginners of Tai Chi or those who have had trouble learning complicated Tai Chi forms. It emphasizes the health benefits for mind, body, and spirit, yet is fun, varied and relaxing to learn.

  • Punch cards are now available at Member Services for Betsy's classes - 12 classes for $55 for MMC Members /$60 for non-members. Good for any of Betsy's classes. Expires 60 days from date of purchase. Or - $5 per individual class, if desired - pay at Member Services by 2 p.m.
  • Classes meet Tuesdays, 2:30 -3:30 p.m. in the Palmer Room.

Zumba Gold & Zumba Gold Chair

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music that creates a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system. Instructor: Ida Kirkendoll

  • Chair Aerobics Classes meet Mondays from 12:30 - 1:30 PM in Activity Room 10.

 

  • Zumba Gold Classes meet Mondays from 1:45-2:45 PM in Activity Room 10.
  • Cost for six classes is $20 for MMC members; non members pay $30. Both classes offer a drop in fee of $5 per class for MMC members; $10 for non-members. Space is limited so please register at Member Services.

Pool Volleyball

Join in the fun every Friday at the Wellness Center pool for a lively game of volleyball from 2 to 3 p.m. Cost is only $2 a day or a 24 visit punch card is available for $48 at MMC Member Services.

Tai Kwan Do

Learn self-defense, stay fir, improve balance and reflexes, and stimulate your mind with Tae Kwon Do. Designed with older adults in mind, learn self-defense skills while improving your physical strength with this form of martial arts. Led by John Cloyd, a 9th degree Black Belt and martial arts instructor of 48 years. Classes meet Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in Activity Room 10. Cost for an eight week session is $50 for MMC members or pay a drop in fee of $8 per class (fee is $70 and $12 for non-members respectively). Register at MMC Members Services. Attire is comfortable work-out clothes and sneakers, Students should also bring a water bottle and towel to class.

Aqua Aerobics

Tuesday and Thursday sessions. Cost is $42 for 12 class punch card. Cards are only good for the session you select. Class times are as follows:

  • 12:30-1:50 PM | One hour of exercise and 20 minutes free play or
  • 2:00-3:00 PM
  • 3:15-4 PM | Arthritis friendly
  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays sessions. Cost is $42 for 12 class punch card.
  • 9:45-10:45 AM or
  • 11:15-12:15 PM.
  • (All aerobic classes are to be performed according to client ability.)

Sign up at the MMC Member Services desk. Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Arthritis Friendly Aquatic Classes

The Wellness Center is happy to announce Arthritis Friendly Aquatic Classes. If you are unable to commit to a full session of aquatic classes or want to be able to do gentle exercises in a relaxed environment, purchase an Arthritic Friendly pool pass and join in, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:15 - 4 p.m. The punch card allows you more flexibility to choose when you feel able to participate. Cost is $35 for 10 uses. Purchase cards at Member Services.

Pool Party/Baptism Rental

The swimming pool can be rented on weekends after 12:30pm for pool parties and church baptisms.

Yoga - Free

Harry Jenkins teaches free morning yoga. His focus is on beginner Yin Yoga. This on-going course is free to members of the MMC only and sign up is not required. Classes are held Wednesday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. located in the upstairs Caregiver Resource Center (found in the back Medical Arts Building). Yoga is great exercise and offers a vast amount of health benefits including: regulated breathing, posture, flexibility, balance, muscle strength, self-awareness and more!
